Restaurant websites & online ordering

Take orders on your own site, and keep the commission.

The delivery apps take up to around 30% of every order. Ordering on your own website takes none of it. Built, hosted and looked after by me, for one monthly fee. Add Yes Chef, my partner platform, and the rota, bookings and checks run from the same place.

An independent restaurant during a busy evening service
Saturday, eight o’clockThe orders still come in written down and paid for, while you’re on the floor.

The arithmetic.

On a £30 order, around £9 goes to the app. On a busy month, that’s somebody’s wages.

The customer goes with it. Their name, their address and what they ordered last time belong to the platform, which is free to show them the restaurant down the road next time they open it.

Ordering on your own site changes the sum. The customer orders from you, pays you, and is still your customer next week. The Website + Systems plan is £299 a month: the commission on about 33 of those £30 orders. Everything after that stays with you.

The apps are still worth being on for the people who find you there. They just shouldn’t be the only way to buy from you.

What you run, from your phone.

The half your customers see is a menu and a checkout, and anyone can build that. The half worth paying for is the one you use during service.

  • Orders, during service

Every order lands with you the moment it’s paid: on a tablet by the pass, by email, or both. Items, options, notes, and whether it’s collection or delivery, written down rather than shouted down a phone.

  • The menu, yours to change

Add a dish, change a price, mark the lamb as sold out at eight on a Saturday. Options too: extra halloumi, large or regular. Totals are worked out on the server, never in the customer’s browser, so nobody edits a price before paying.

  • Hours and closures

Opening hours for each day, plus the dates you’re shut. Closing for a private party next Sunday is a form you fill in on your phone, not a message to a developer.

  • Collection and delivery

The postcodes you deliver to, with a fee and a minimum order for each, or collection only. A discount for collecting moves regulars off the apps without costing you the commission.

  • What sold, and when

Takings and order counts for any dates you choose, your best sellers, and a spreadsheet you can send straight to the accountant.

All of it is part of the Website + Systems plan, built around how your kitchen works. Table bookings run on Yes Chef, below.

Partner platform

The rest of the house: Yes Chef.

Your website takes the orders. Yes Chef runs the restaurant behind it. It’s the restaurant management platform I build alongside 1273, made to work with the sites I build, so you can have both as one package with one person to call.

Yes Chef restaurant management platform
  • Table bookings

A booking page for your site where guests pick a day, a time and a party size, and change or cancel it themselves. Online and phone bookings in one list for the door.

  • Rotas

Built against forecast demand with the labour cost in view, published from a phone. Swaps, open shifts and time off without the WhatsApp group.

  • Clock-in to payroll

Clock in and out, timesheets and payroll with tronc, exported for the accountant instead of worked out by hand on a Sunday night.

  • Food safety checks

Timed checks to FSA standard on a phone or shared tablet, with photos, sign-off and who did what, ready for the inspector.

  • Sales from the till

Takings, covers and spend per head, live from a connected till, against last week or last year.

  • Ask Yes Chef

Ask a question about your own restaurant and get the answer from your own data. It can make changes too, with a tap to confirm.

Take the website on its own, or the website and Yes Chef together. Yes Chef is priced by the size of your team, and I’ll quote both on the first call.

One monthly fee. Nothing upfront.

Design, build, hosting, changes and support in one price. You pay when your site goes live, not before.

Custom software for when a website isn’t enough, built with the same standards as banking apps.

  • Payments & account systems
  • Dashboards, CRMs & internal tools
  • App Store submission

Talk about your app
  • Nothing upfront
  • First payment at launch
  • No contract, cancel anytime
  • Yours outright after 12 months

No contract. Cancel any month. You stay because the orders are coming in, not because you’re locked in.

You pay nothing while the site is being built. The first payment is on the day it goes live, and each payment covers the month ahead.

After twelve months, the site is yours to take anywhere. Your menu, photos and customers’ details are yours from day one.

You see a first version within two working days: that’s the free mockup. A site that takes orders and payments takes longer than one that only shows a menu, and I’ll tell you how long yours will take on our first call.

This probably isn’t for you if…

  • You need online ordering live by next weekend. A system that takes people’s money has to be tested properly, and I’d rather say no than hand you something rushed.
  • You want to pay once and never think about it again. This works because the site keeps being looked after. If you’d rather own a finished thing outright from day one, a one-off build is the better fit.
  • Nearly all your orders come through the apps and you’re happy with that. Then the apps are doing their job, and this would mostly be a cost.

See it working.

A restaurant ordering site you can try on your phone, and Yes Chef, the platform that runs the restaurant behind it.

Persia Hove restaurant website

Persia Hove

Restaurant ordering, HoveConcept

What it needed
A beautiful dining room, and a template site with one ‘Book’ button, a menu you could only read and no way to order. Takeaway came by phone, or through an app taking its cut.
What I built
Ordering for collection, dine-in and delivery, with dish search, filters, a basket, and checkout by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or cash. A 20% discount for collecting, and table bookings with an occasion picker.
What it does
Shows what a restaurant’s own ordering site can feel like. Open it on your phone and try it.
Yes Chef restaurant management software

Yes Chef

Partner platform, runs the restaurantLimited release

What it’s for
Most kitchens run on a rota spreadsheet, a WhatsApp group, a clipboard of fridge temperatures and payroll worked out by hand on a Sunday night.
What’s built
Rotas built against forecast demand and published from a phone. Clock-in, timesheets and payroll with tronc, exported for the accountant. Menus, food safety checks to FSA standard with photos and sign-off, and pre-shift briefings. A web hub for the office and an iPhone app for the team.
Where it is
Live on the web and on iPhone for a limited number of restaurants, each one set up by hand. It comes with your website as one package, or on its own.

Omar Maroki.

The person who picks up the phone is the person who builds your site.

I’ve been building software since 2018, starting with cashless wristband payments for festivals, then four years of banking, savings and credit apps. Software that takes people’s money has to be built properly, and an ordering system is exactly that.

Nothing is handed to someone you’ve never met. I design, write and hand-code every site from Brighton, and I’m the one you message when the menu changes.

Straight answers.

Something I haven’t covered? Ask me directly.

omar@1273.co.uk
Do I have to come off Deliveroo, Just Eat or Uber Eats?

No. Stay on them for the people who find you there. The aim is that your regulars, and anyone who already knows your name, order from you directly. A small discount for ordering direct still costs you far less than the commission.

We take most of our orders by phone. Is it still worth it?

Often more so. Every phone order is someone tied to the phone in the middle of service, and a misheard order is food in the bin. Online orders arrive written down and already paid for. Keep the phone for the regulars who prefer it.

How do customers pay, and when do I get the money?

By card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, through Stripe, into a Stripe account in your own name, which pays out to your bank. Stripe’s card fees apply, a small percentage of each payment and far less than an app’s commission. I take nothing on top of any order.

Can it do delivery?

Yes, with your own drivers. You choose which postcodes you deliver to, and the fee and minimum order for each. If you don’t have drivers, collection only is a perfectly good place to start.

Can I see it before I commit?

Yes. Open the Persia Hove demo on your phone and try it. Then send me your restaurant’s name and I’ll rebuild your homepage for free within two working days, on a link you can show the team.

Can you do rotas and bookings too?

Yes, through Yes Chef, the restaurant management platform I build alongside 1273. It runs table bookings, rotas, clock-in and payroll, food safety checks and sales from the till, and works with the site I build. Take it with your website as one package, or the website on its own.

What does it cost?

£299 a month on the Website + Systems plan, with nothing upfront and no commission on any order. You start paying on the day it goes live, and you can cancel any month.

Tell me about your restaurant.

It comes to me, not to a team. I read every message and reply within a working day.
